Micron Beta Race can for GSXR600K1

After having the GSXR for a little while and the only add-on being a hugger I started to get a hankering for an end can. I remember from my school days that Micron cans had been the thing to get if, like me, you happened to own an AR50.

Looking at the Micron product range I settled on a Micron Beta Race end can in “Microme” (basically) a chromed exhaust, very shiny and pretty. Most people get titanium or carbon so wanted something a little different. At the NEC show managed to get Padgetts to drop the RRP of the exhaust from 350 quid to 260 delivered, bargain!

Fitting is straight forward enough, undo the four bolts that attach the original end can to the exhaust pipe and then remove the hanger bolt and the exhaust will just slide off the bracket. Get the new one and bolt it on in the reverse order. Tip: don’t forget to take the gasket off the old exhaust for the new one or there will not be an air tight seal, I did forget and had to do the lot all over again.

Make sure that you thread lock all the bolts and use a little exhaust cement on the join to make it completely air tight. Make sure that all bolts are tight before setting off.

Got the end can on and there is a <ahem> noticeable difference in the sound of the bike, lets not beat around the bush, its loud(ish) at tickover and screams when the bike is at full chat. Making sure that you short shift round town helps, at high revs you may as well have a flag on you saying “Look at me, I am being illegal” the sound is lovely though, nice and  “bassy” if you like.

The end can will fit all of the new GSXR’s with no mods needed to the engine, although Micron do say that a Power Commander can help give more power.

The bike does now seem to be a little smoother throughout the rev range and the top end has increased by around 5 brake. (allegedly: I have not had the bike on a Dyno yet, but have seen the power chart from stock to the micron can on another bike).

All in all, a well made can, one of the only ones I have seen for the gixer that is easily repackable (you just un bolt the end and the sleeve slids off), nice and shiny and makes the bike look and sound the part.

Recommended.
