Honda

Founded in 1948 by Soichiro Honda, this is the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer. Honda's commitment to providing basic transport for the masses is exemplified by the evergreen Cub and the seminal CG125: a bike which, in primitive cultures such as Papua New Guinea, Borneo and Norfolk is revered as "Pushrod-Him-Belong-Jesus-Christ". At the other end of the scale, Honda redefined the supersports class in the early 90s when Tadao Baba's FireBlade hit the streets. With an initial design brief of "Go raiku shitoffu shovuru", sales success was assured, but tabloid outrage and the threat of legislation followed. By way of making amends, Honda UK set up its Riders Club. Tea parties, whist drives and pottery classes are regular fixtures, and Honda's own private army of janitors ensure that the company's products are enjoyed responsibly. You meet the nicest people on a Honda.

As the CBR was my "big" bike I'll try not to gush too emotionally about the experience. There's nothing worse than a virgin going on about how great their first shag was when we all know that it was probably crap... >>more

When it came out, it was the bike to beat, for me it still is. I have the 99 CBR900RR-X model, and its one hell of a bike. Compared to a 2001 CBR600, it feels very smooth, and the handling is superb... >>more

Not much to say, yet, except that it's very stable, stops on a sixpence, and goes like polished poo off a chrome shovel, and it's still running in. Gawd knows what it goes like above 6k... >>more

Having rented a couple of these behemoths for weekend trips, I decided that I would quite like to own one. To this end, I scoured MCN classifieds, to find that 3, 4 and even 5 year-old 1500s were going for between 8 and 9 grand... >>more
