JH125B

Look up "Shite" in the dictionary...there'll be one of these pictured

There are good motorcycles, there are bad motorcycles and there is a "Shite Bike"(TM). I happen to be the sort-of proud of the latter, this Trojan Horse of a motorcycle was sent to torture all first-time buyers who know nothing about motorcycles from the Chinese.

The motorcycle in question is a Jialing JH125B, and realistically it's not as bad as most people would think. It starts first time except when it has been left for more than a couple of days, then it's a right pain to get started. It comes with alloy wheels ( nice ), a front disc brake that couldn't stop anything without three weeks advanced notice in writing and 12v electrics ( v. dodgy).

OK, I needed a bike in a hurry, new nothing/little about bikes and decided to buy it and travel from Cambridge to York with about 40kilos of luggage as a first journey on the day I picked up the bike, so you see I was running it in :). It managed it, and in the next 2 years I did about 12,000 miles on the poor thing going to work and back everyday. Dropped it three times and did only minor damage. It has now been replaced due to heavy vibration which got me worried about what had broken this time, a leaky engine and of course it all the power of a scooter, though I did manage 70mph on the poor little thing once.

I did have some problems with it which is probably due in no small amount to my incompetence and infrequent servicing ( by myself). So in total the replaced bits were...

  • Fuel Line
  • Rev Counter Cable
  • Battery
  • 6 Indicator bulbs
  • 3 Brake Lights
  • Regulator ( see above )
  • Rubber connecting carb and motor ( popping when decelerating was air escaping around degraded chinese rubber )
  • Mirror ( due to me dropping it )
  • Rear Tyre
  • Rear wheel adjuster fitting ( left side )
  • Chain and sprockets ( Oh, I need to adjust this - see above )
  • Lots of oil

...Bear in mind that the bike was brand new when I bought it so replacing bits of rubber and electrics should not have been needed.

So, you want a nice little JH125B you do.
