I have two Z650's, Mr.Z who is a '79 C3 model and lately Zen who is allegedly an '81 F1 model. I like Z's, but honestly the Z9 or Z1 are too big for me, so when I got a chance of a Z650 it seemed perfect.
For the uninitiated, the Z650 has a 4-cylinder 650cc engine, giving around 64bhp. Theoretical top speed is 120mph but I *never* go more than about 90 - they're old bikes and even in their day known for dubious handling. But there's just something about the style of them I love. It probably isn't just me as they're quite desirable and seem to hold an unfairly higher price than equaivalent CBs or GSs. Mechanically they're fairly straightforward - hey if I can work on one, anyone could :-).
I tend to use Mr.Z mainly for weekend runs and things - I fret if he gets wet and to be honest, his engine hasn't got that much life left that he can do a lot of long trips. But he is very comfortable - I did a 400 mile run a few weeks ago and he managed fine.
Should I say something about reliability? Hmmm, perhaps not. He's an old bike and needs frequent attention, lets leave it that.
There's more about Mr.Z on WIMA's website.
Newer to the fold is Zen, an F1 Z650. I bought him for spares from a certain Older Gentleman, but found I had so much stuff that together with the bits left over from Mr.Z and a few pieces from Eddie's trashed GPz I could make a second bike. You can never have too many Z650s.
