Come in two flavours : Teapot or jellymould depending on year and preference to lack of style. Its a plastic coated Bandit, bomb proof engine, but prone to the effects of poor weather. Fore runner tot he GSXR600 & RF600 also, but you wouldn't notice.
Reasonable go for a bike that hasn't really changed (other than even worse styling) for near on 14 years. Engine has sweet FA character, with an almost flat power curve only a little dip at 5K and a slight jump from 8K upwards.
Cam chain tensioners have been known to be iffy on very early moddels. You undo the cam chain cap, push in the tentioner with a screw driver, stretch the spring a little & put it back. Reg/rect costs a bomb to fix. Air filter can be up to £35 and has to be changed about every 7.5K miles.
Early GSX600Fs have locknut tappets rather than bucket and shims so if you are handly with spanners , but don't like normal valve clearance jobs, then you can still save yourself a fortune at the dealers. Old GSXR750 top ends and carbs can fit straight onto the engine as its basically a sleeved down 750 motor anyway. With the number of crashed Bandits in breakers you are never short of engine spares if you really abuse the engine.
Good bike for someone who wants a sportyish 600 on a very tight budget.
