GSXF750

BIKES | October 17, 2002

Oh dearie dearie me.

What have i done - I've bought a teapot, probably the most untrendy, unfashionable bike on the market, and I actually paid money for it.

So goes the story , if you believe all the crap in the magazines. They wont even review them , just slag them off.

What possessed me to such madness?

Strangely enough, it was a decision based on common sense, lack of taste, and personal requirements in equal measure. I have a sad admission to make.i actually like the styling.

Mind you , i think dawn french is quite attractive, so you may consider my taste up my rectum. But hold on a mo, what have we got here? A fully faired bike, with a respectable turn of speed and a bullet proof engine available in some places for under four and a half grand new.

It goes, it stops, it corners and it doesnt hurt my arse after 150miles. It doesnt do track days, but so what, it does everything else.

To buy a teapot, you make the same sort of statement people do when the Buy a Skoda.

Mind you, i dont know any skodas capable of a genuine 150mph and standing quarter in 11.8 secs. If you can put up with the sniggers ,and there will be a few, behind the image the 750 is a cracker.

I have called mine Earl [after the Grey bloke] and intend to knit it a nice cosy for the winter months while it hides from winter salt.

My other bike? - a GT550 , I told you I had taste.

If you can only afford to insure a 400 , but want a big bike - consider the GSXF750 - it keeps up surprisingly well with the big boys on good A roads. Get a nice set of tartan leathers to go with it , and spray paint your boots silver for added effect .

Go on, you know it makes sense
