The Radian is basically a U.S. spec Yamaha FZ600
It's not a plastic rocket nor a custom styled cruiser, just a "standard motorcycle"
It's very compact for a 600cc 4 at 81.7" overall length, weighing in at 194Kg with a full tank, and a seat height of just 30.4" - which is great for a 5'4 short-arsed hairy middle aged git like me.
The 16" wheels combined with the compact size make it a very manoeuvrable bike, with fairly respectable performance from a mid 80's model - 0-60 in 3.4 secs, ss ¼ of 12.10 secs/108.8 mph. Fuel consumption is not fantastic at around 45mpg - made worse by the tiny 11 litre fuel tank - but at least it gives a good excuse for frequent fag stops. Oh, and it's chain drive, so it can wheelie and countersteer.
I bought the bike from an importer in Matlock as my first bike after a few years out of the saddle due to kids, mortgage - the usual stuff! I think it is an ideal bike for this - not to big, not frighteningly fast - but still quick enough to see of most cages on the road and to keep up reasonably well on a run with other bikes. I use it for my weekly commute from home near Newark in Nottinghamshire to Dunstable - usually across country because It's a lot more fun than the M1 or the A1 - and the 130 mile trip takes me around 2 hours including at least 1 petrol and 2 fag stops - which I think is not to bad for a 16 year old bike!
Despite the fact that it was never sold outside the USA and Canada, parts are not a problem. The engine is standard XJ600, and the cycle parts are FZ600 It's had oil filters, an air filter, new front disks and pads, new fork seals and head-race bearings. Only the cosmetics would be a problem - but there is an active Radian owners email list, and I could order any of these parts direct from the states should I need anything.
Eventually I will probably want to move to a bigger bike, but for now the Radian is ideal for me, and since I paid a whacking £1250 quid for it, I don't think It will owe me anything when it finally goes to another home.
