Sidi unlined waterproofs, 9 quid. Totally waterproof, with big panels on the lower leg that make you look like a refugee from a Seventies fetish party if you forget to do them up. The Doc's top waterproof tip - carry a plastic bag (one of those really thin crap ones from a newsagent is perfect) in a pocket. Then, when you have one of those roadside-monsoon-protection moments, stick the bag over your boot, and it'll make it a million times easier to pull them over the boot. Repeat for the other leg.
