Quill Powerflow / T3 Road-legal End Can

I found the power delivery on my old CBR a bit peaky, to say the least. Perhaps troughy would be a better description - any bike which puts out less torque at 5500rpm than it does at 2500rpm is in need of a bit of tweaking.

I tried the usual K&N and Dynojet treatment, but this didn't help much. It looked like a new end-can was going to be the only solution.

Being new to biking, I wasn't sure what the form was with race cans on the road.  Sure, they're illegal, and your insurance company could technically avoid your policy if they found out, but the number of people whizzing up and down with loud cans would suggest that this isn't really a concern to most bikers.

Browsing MCN one day I spotted that Quill had come out with a "revolutionary", but more importantly legal, end can.  Almost as much gas flow as a race can, said the blurb, and BSAU approved.

Lloyd Cooper of Watford sorted me out, and after a brief
misunderstanding where they fitted the bike with an insanely loud race can, I was the proud owner of a titanium Quill Powerflow.

Immediately the rideability of the bike was transformed.  If anything, low-down response was dulled slightly, so the bike seemed slightly more hesitant pulling away at low revs in traffic.  Once over 3000rpm, though, the bike was transformed - a nice linear surge all the way up to the red-line, with a lovely deep muted exhaust note.  The smooth power delivery of the bike meant that the rideability was completely transformed.

If you're the owner of a 1999 onwards CBR600 I'd strongly recommend one of these.  If nothing else, you'll discover how immensely heavy the stock exhaust is.

I liked the can so much, I bought another one in carbon fibre for the GSXR600.  Since Suzuki seem to know how to make a standard exhaust can without crippling the bike, the performance difference here seems slight.  That said, I installed the can at the onset of winter, and at the time of writing the opportunity to give it beans hasn't really
presented itself.  Still, it's a big improvement in the sound
department, and it looks cool too.

Quill have since re-christened can "T3".  They're available from http://www.jbracing.co.uk/ and are made to order rather than held in stock.  Prices are around the £150 mark for stainless steel, and £220 for carbon or titanium.
