7.8: Motor Insurance Bureau
If you are the victim of an uninsured or hit and run driver, you may be able to claim compensation from the Motor Insurance Bureau, an organisation funded by motor insurers. If you make an application to the M.I.B it will be considered under one of two categories.
1. Universal Drivers Agreement This applies to accidents in which the driver of the vehicle who caused the injury or damage was identified. There are some conditions if your claim includes damage to property by an uninsured driver.
2. Untraced Driver Agreement This applies if you are injured by a hit and run driver and cannot sue because the driver cannot be traced. However, you may only claim for bodily injury, not for damage to property.
