Silk Neck Warmer
BY Verdigris
kit | November 6, 2001

I use this all year round.  Bought from Patra, (www.patra.com), it's seen over five years of constant use.  It's a double-layered tube, made mostly of silk with some-sort of synthetic in the mix to give it a bit of elasticity.  In the summer, it's enough to protect my neck from insects; in the winter it does an excellent job of keeping me warm.  In really cold weather a little more is needed, but I find that with a balaclava I don't need anything else.  Being silk, it's very compact, so off the bike you can just stuff it in a pocket out of the way.
