Shoei Synchrotec
BY Mike Richards
kit | November 20, 2001

If you take any notice of the UKRM newsgroup, you either have a Shoei shaped head, or an Arai shaped head, or.... Well, I have a head shaped head that seems to fit most makes of lid quite nicely, but Ive always liked Shoei lids for some reason...

Anyway, on to the Synchrotec bit...

Not a bad helmet by any standards, dead comfy to wear for long periods of time, with no ear ache or any associated bits...

BUT, and its quite a big but, I would recommend this lid for summer use only really.  The vents on the chin piece just dont seal well when in the closed position.  On a trip up to Lincoln at the beginning of November, I had to stop off at a service station purely in order to buy some insulation tape to seal the vents up with.  If you dont do this, then at speed you end up with a constant blast of cold wind in the eyes, even with all vents closed and visor pushed down hard, which after more than half an hour or so is just plain unpleasant.  Never found it much of a problem during the summer, but now the cold is with us...not nice.  Its not the lightest or quietest of helmets either.  Motorway journeys necessitate ear plugs.
